Your red Selectric II looks great! I have a red Selectric III (IBM 196c), but I think that color is not as vivid as yours (It can be the lighting though). What have you used to clean the remains of the foam? I'm having trouble doing the same thing... :)
To remove the foam I used a vacuum cleaner and for the remaining sticky residue I used some Zippo lighter fluid and after a while I could remove the remaining glue with a plastic knife. Probably there are better solutions or more powerful solvents that can speed up the whole process...
The red color is very vivid in this pic, in the real life is a bit less snappy... but not much: it seems as new, just as out of the factory!
I used a plastic one to prevent scratches on the paint, but a metal one will work too. However I've noticed that your Selectric III has a lot more foam than mine: for example, under the machine's mechanism the foam was only kept in its place by two rubber grommets, while in your typewriter I see lots of glue!!!
I really like the script font and the color of tye typewriter is excellent.
ReplyDeleteIt is an impressive looking typewriter, I hope you can get it working.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bill and Richard. Nice red, and the font looks clean and clear.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bill, Richard and Ton, the script font is very nice and the red giant is impressive.

Thank you, I haven't thought of plastic knife before. I'll try them, I must have some at home from Chinese takeaway restaurant leftover.. :)
