I think it's a nice movement, not very rare indeed, but I've never seen it before. I want to make a new diy wooden enclosure, get new hands and a good dial and put together a clock for my room!
Andrea, I think the clock must be vertical to work. The weighted bar acts as counterbalance and is re-set to the top position every minute or so, driving the clockwork as it descends through gravity. I hope you get it working.
